Last Minute Litter Pick

A very succesfull last minute litter pick today, Chair of the Middlewich Clean Team, Janet Chisholm enthused, "Seven people turned up for the last minute litter pick..how fantastic is that...only a days notice and we had a group of enthusiastic volunteers out and about to tidy Booth Lane."

Janet added, "Could I thank everyone who attended today's litter pick......it was lovely to see so many yellow jackets all in one area."

Middlewich High School Lends a Hand

The Middlewich Clean team was busy again on Saturday afternoon. Seven people attended the litter pick around the the Kings Lock pub and St. Michael's Way areas.

Two young pupils who attend Middlewich High School came along to help. They are working towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. MCT Chairperson Janet Chisholm said, "It was so refreshing to have them along, they worked hard and are intending to volunteer again in the near future. They actually said that they enjoyed themselves....fantastic."

A burnt out bin on Queens Street which looks awful was eramarked for attentionand the supply of green bags refuse bags was exhausted. Janet added, "I am organising a half hour litter pick on Booth Lane tomorrow at 2.00 o'clock. 

If any of our team are available could you be at the little car park on the end of Warmingham Lane and Long Lane please. We have to tidy this area before Christmas."

 

MCT at Middlewich Hich School

Janet & Maxine paid a visit to the Middlewich High School & gave a short presentation about litter awareness to year 7 pupils. It was well received !

The Clean Team message was reiterated & we would like to thank the school for taking part in a school litter pick during the summer term. This programme will continue in 2009 , as Middlewich High School is linked to the Clean Team as their community partner.

 

Grass Roots Grant Application Success

The MCT has been successful in it's application for a Grassroots Grant from Cheshire Community Action. The grant is to cover a three year period and will be used for:

• Litter picking sticks,
• Posters for bins,
• Insurance,
• Flourescent safety jackets and
• IT including laptops, web site design & maintenance.

We are pleased to acknowledge the Police Community Action Team in supporting our application.

Christmas Parade

The town was packed for the Christmas Parade and the turning on of the lights. The Clean Team was there to help with marshalling and enjoyed doing so. It was very nice to receive a note of thanks from Dave Thompson, the Middlewich Town Council Events Manager. Like Dave we look forward to working together to make next year's event even better.

Middlewich Clean Team held a very well attended litter pick this afternoon. There total numbers of helpers were nine. This was fantastic as the weather was not all that good so thanks to everyone that came along. So much litter was picked up that Streetscape had to collect bags from:

• By the bus stop on St. Michael's Way
• At the bin opposite the entrance to Somerfield.
• At the bin by the library.
• At the bin at Brooks Lane near to the bridge.

The little sweeper was out and about and this gave the opportunity to ask the operator to give the area outside the Take A Way in Wheelock Street a really good sweeping and pay extra attention to the pavement on a regular basis. Which he did, such a nice guy that deserves our thanks.

Cricket Club Bonfire Night

On Sunday Morning (2nd November 2008) we litter picked after the Town Bonfire that was held at the Middlewich Cricket Club. 

Over the past few years the Cricket Club has made a donation of £50.00 to Middlewich Clean Team for helping them to tidy up but on this occasion we decided that we would give the gift back and this money will now be used by the junior section to buy equipment. This is true community working with community.

Bulb Planting

Middlewich Clean Team had an enjoyable time bulb planting when 22 people came along to help. A group of six planted 500 crocus in St. Michaels' church yard. 

Wil Morton brought his little digger along and removed the turf from a grassed area on Kinderton Street, this made the planting of hundreds of daffodils so much easier, of course we replaced the turf afterwards! The weather was lovely and sunny and we all finished off at the Boars Head for a drink and sandwiches. Bill Walmsley was on hand with his camera and he took the photographs of the action which are shown on this page. This event was funded by Middlewich Community Pride Group.
